Agrhh...... The bad news is I got a virus in WinXP 2 days ago. And I am in my other partition Win98 doing my blog. But the good news is, I have solved it on New Year. The virus is a W32.Yaha.L@mm. Worm Here's how i solved it.
I started WinXP and I went about my normal proceeding, clicking on a program. Strangely windows prompted me a msg, "Windows can not access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access item." And I wondered to myself, "What the f*#k." I tried accessing all programs, including Anti-Viruses but windows still prompts the same msg, "Windows can not access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access item." At first I thought Windows XP crashed on me. Then my instinct tells me it's a virus and you can imagine how happy I was then!
Fed Up as I was, I went to a search engine to search for topics related to "Windows can not access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access item." I've got a result located at a MSN website. It said it was the SirCam Virus. So i did everything it told me to do and went to Symantec to download the remedy for it. I discovered that there was no SirCam Virus in my com after scanning it using the downloaded removal tool from Symantec. So it wasn't the SirCam Virus, what now I asked myself?
I have notice in the MSN Website that the SirCam Virus had a similar attribute, ""%1" %*" in my registry key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command" But mine instead of the (SirCam Virus) "C:\recycled\sirc32.exe "%1" %*" it was (W32.Yaha.K@mm Virus) "D:\%System%\Nav32_loader.exe "%1 %*" So then again I searched for topics related to "D:\%System%\Nav32_loader.exe "%1 %*." I got results located at e-Safe. And now I know the virus that infected my com is W32.Yaha.K@mm Worm. e-Safe provides the remedy for the virus but i need to have e-Safe Anti-Virus program to access their removal fix tool. Now, at least I have found out what virus it was and know how to play with it. I went back to Symantec to get the removal fix tool and God Bless Me. Everything is fine now and up and running. And now I play C.S. like nobody's business.
By the way, so much for New Year. It's gonna be a great and wacky year ahead 2003 !
